KRAFT Bergen is a leading showcase for contemporary crafts and materials-based art by national and international artists. KRAFT is situated in Bergen city centre.
KRAFT Bergen is a leading showcase for contemporary crafts and materials-based art by national and international artists. As the only professional exhibition venue in Western Norway specialising in crafts, KRAFT represents a unique voice for the visual art scene in the region. KRAFT is an innovative and professional driver for the development of the field, the status of crafts and their dissemination. Different exhibitions and events enable KRAFT to contribute to the debate on the significance of crafts.
The exhibition programme at KRAFT spotlights different traditions and material fields, and thus reflects the diversity of the field. The exhibitors range from recently graduated artists to well-established, recognised professionals in the field. There is a high level of activity at KRAFT, including exhibitions, presentations, talks by artists, evening lectures, seminars and a pop-up shop.
In addition to changing exhibitions, KRAFT focuses on dissemination and sales. In our dissemination room, we present a wide range of crafts by local and national artists, and KRAFT is happy to provide guidance on purchases or decorative art projects.
KRAFT has a total of five rooms for exhibitions and other purposes:
National and international exhibitions are shown in Galleriet and Hvelvet.
Prosjektrommet is mainly used for exhibitions and presentations, book launches, talks by artists, workshops etc.
A wide range of crafts are for sale in Formidlingsrommet. Here, we present just over 30 artists, of whom half have links to the local region.
Krypten is a meeting room and communal area that also has a kitchen. This room is used for presentations, film screenings, dissemination, social events in connection with openings and a meeting place for the crafts scene.
KRAFT is housed in Norges Bank’s former premises in Bergen city centre. KRAFT Bergen, formerly known as Galleri FORMAT, became a separate company in 2013, and is wholly owned by the trade union the Norwegian Association for Arts and Crafts. In 2014, the focus of its operating profile switched to exhibiting.
