Visit Bergen is Eco-lighthouse certified

We are Eco-Lighthouse certified

In Visit Bergen we try our best to minimize our carbon footprint and the potential negative impact of our operations. We have therefor been Eco-Lighthouse certified since 2020. Eco-Lighthouse is Norway’s leading sustainability certification scheme and is recognized by the EU Commission to hold the same standard and quality on a par with e.g., EMAS and ISO 14001. Among other things, we have sensory driven lights which reduce our energy consumption, we recycle our waste and have strict policies on procurement and travelling. 

However, since Visit Bergen is a small organization that don’t have any direct sources of emission (scope 1), our biggest impact comes from inspiring changes in others. We therefor inspire and incentivise guest coming to Bergen to make sustainable choices, provide tools, advise and courses on sustainable development for our members and set demands for our suppliers. In 2022 75% of our main suppliers held a third-party sustainability certificate and we aim to increase this number to a 100% in the coming years! On behalf of the destination, we are also coordinating the work with sustainable travel development. This way we can punch beyond our weight when it comes to sustainability.

We offer work experience to students 

An important part of our work with sustainability is also to contribute to the local community. Since 2021 we have collaborated with the University of Bergen to provide internship for students at The Department of Comparative Politics.  

Through this collaboration we are strengthening our ties with the local university, at the same time as we contribute to students’ educational careers. One of the ambitions is to give future employees better insight into the different career opportunities that exists in the tourism industry.
