Five green reason to host your event in Bergen

There are several reasons why you should host your event, meeting, conference, congress, or incentive trip in Bergen. Here are five green reasons for choosing Bergen as your host city.

1. Everything is close by 

Bergen has a compact city center. This means that it is easy to walk between the hotel and the event/meeting location, as well as between the hotel and the location for the social events. If you want to bike between locations, it is easy to do so with the many city bikes available throughout the city.

2. Green modes of transportation

When in need to travel a bit further, it is easy to use the public transport in Bergen. The city has a well-developed network of public transportation with several light rail lines.  

From the airport you can travel environmentally friendly by The Bergen Light Rail or by the biofueled Airport Express Bus. When traveling around in the city it is also good to know that a large share of the buses and taxies in Bergen run on electricity. Tide and Boreal also offer electrical tour buses for rental.

And did you know that Flesland airport has a 3+ Neutrality level “Airport Carbon Accreditation”, as well as an ISO14001-certification? 

3. Local food 

Bergen is a UNESCO City of Gastronomy. This means that access to local and traditional food is very good. There is a good range of restaurants offering locally produced food in Bergen. Some of the restaurants even grow their own ingredients on roofs and in urban gardens. As well as serving locally produced food 86 percent of the restaurants and caterers that are members of Visit Bergen have implemented measures to reduce their food waste.

4. Environmentally friendly hotels, and meeting locations 

The hotels in Bergen is in the unique position where 9 out of 10 hotel rooms have a sustainability certificate. And if you are hosting a congress, it is good to know that all of the congress centers in Bergen have a sustainability certificate.

5. Sustainable destination 

Bergen is the largest city in the Nordics that are labelled as Sustainable Destination. The labelling scheme is a quality mark for destinations that make a special effort to achieve the sustainability goals.  

Bergen is also among the top performers on The Global Destination Sustainability Index. In 2022 Bergen ranked second on index and was the best ranked destination in the environmental category.
