Free travel with Bergen Card in Bergen and the region
Public transport in Bergen is operated by Skyss, and a large network of routes makes it easy to get around the city and the surrounding region by bus and light rail (Bybane).
In the city centre, it is often easiest to walk, while the Bergen light rail (called Bybanen) and buses are practical for trips outside the centre. Skyss operates both buses and the light rail in Bergen and the region, and you can find timetables at Skyss.no, in the Skyss Reise app, or by calling 177.
You can also travel by local boats along the coast or into the fjords. The Bergen Line (Bergensbanen) is the train connecting Oslo and Bergen. This train is operated by Vy.
With the Bergen Card, you can travel free of charge on the light rail and buses throughout Vestland. No separate ticket is needed - simply show your valid Bergen Card when asked. (The Bergen Card is not valid on the Vy train to Oslo)
Travel to and from Bergen Airport Flesland:

Bergen light rail (Bybanen):
The light rail in Bergen, Bybanen, is operated by Skyss and has become a source of pride for the city’s public transport. It has two lines from the city centre: Line 1 runs from Bergen city centre to Bergen Airport Flesland, and Line 2 runs from Bergen city centre to Fyllingsdalen terminal.
With many stops in the city centre, Bybanen is frequently used by both residents and visitors. For example, there is a stop within a 15-minute walk of Troldhaugen Home of composer Edvard Grieg, as well as several other tourist attractions.
Several stations, such as Bergen bus station and the Lagunen transport hub, offer good bus connections for those continuing their journey by public transport.
Buses in Bergen and Vestland
The bus is perhaps the most flexible way to travel by public transport in Bergen. A well-developed network of routes ensures you can get close to your destination, and Skyss operates an extensive system covering Bergen city centre, Osterøy, northern and southern Bergen, Os, Hardanger, Voss, and Austevoll. The further you travel from the city, the less frequent the buses will go. Make sure you check the timetable before you travel.
Local lines and main routes cover much of the Bergen region, while express buses take you quickly to bus terminals in various districts. Tickets for Skyss can be purchased at ticket machines or via the Skyss Billett app. In addition to single tickets, period tickets such as day passes, weekly passes, monthly passes, and six-month passes are available.

Sea routes
Many people choose to travel to Bergen by sea, arriving on Fjord Line’s comfortable ferries that operate between Hirtshals (Denmark), Stavanger, and Bergen (the ferry takes about 18 hours between Hirtshals and Bergen). Sea travel is also an efficient way to get around the Bergen coast, with Norled offering numerous daily departures by express boat from Bergen to Askøy, Austevoll, Nordhordland, and Sunnhordland. Norled also operates several tourist boat routes in the summer, giving visitors the opportunity to experience the beautiful Bergen region from the sea.
Hurtigruten and Havila Voyages run from Bergen to Kirkenes.
The world’s most beautiful train journey
The Bergen Line (Bergensbanen) has repeatedly been named one of the world’s most scenic railway routes and is one of Europe’s highest and most spectacular train lines (the highest point is at Finse, 1,222 meters above sea level). One advantage of taking the train from Oslo is that you arrive right in the heart of Bergen when you step off the train after the seven-hour journey.
In addition to being a popular transport option between Norway’s two largest cities, many tourists take the Bergen Line to Myrdal to connect with the Flåm Railway (Flåmsbana) to Flåm. The Flåm Railway has been named one of "The World’s Most Incredible Train Journeys" and is one of Norway’s top tourist attractions.
Taxi
As in most major cities, traveling by taxi in Bergen is easy.
