Bergen Ambassador Program

Bergen Convention Bureau / Visit Bergen, together with Bergen's most central educational institutions, the University in Bergen, NHH Norwegian School of Economics and Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, has initiated the Bergen Ambassador Program.

The slogan for the programme is “Bring your meetings home”, and the programme is one of several measures in an effort to further strengthen Bergen’s position as an international meeting city. The ambassador program is anchored by the principals at the University in Bergen, NHH Norwegian School of Economics and Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, and also supported by Bergen Municipality.

The new ambassadors are appointed in an official ceremony. The ambassadors are awarded this honour for their work as door openers to their network through membership in an international organization, and for being enthusiastic and active partners in the process of making sure important conferences in their field of expertise are being held in Bergen.

The ambassadors appointed will in the years to come act as mentors for others who want to take on the hosting role for large congresses. Their advice on the application process and the implementation of an international conference will be integral for further success in this area. In the long term, the goal is for the Ambassador program to also establish contact with similar programs in other university cities in Scandinavia, in order to share experiences related to being an international meeting city.

The ceremony is held annually, with the appointment of those who have taken on the hosting role for large congresses the past year.
