Extensive opportunities for fishing adventures for your customers
You are here: Planning Fishing excursions in the Bergen region
The Bergen region offers extensive opportunities for fishing adventures for your customers, both in the fjords and in the deep-sea along the rugged coastline.
Fishing in the beautiful fjords makes for a spectacular fishing environment. You can fish from boats, piers or from shore. The fjords consist of a mix between salt water from the ocean, fresh water from rivers and melting snow from the mountains. This creates a brackish water with a higher percentage of salt water the further to the coast you get.The most common species are coalfish, cod, haddock, pollack, tusk, mackerel and redfish.
You do not need a license to fish in the fjords. However, if you fish along the banks where a river enters the fjord you may be in an area where you do need a license, as it may be governed by the licensing for the river. You should also be aware that some species have restrictions on the size of the fish you are allowed to catch to ensure the reproduction of the various types of fish.
In the Bergen region you can head to the wild, rugged and largely unspoilt coastline for great chances to get your dream catch on the hook. You will probably get more fish along the coast than in the fjords.
Thanks to the cold and clear waters and a strong focus on sustainability, the Norwegian seas have abundant stocks of fish and shellfish. The ocean is literally brimming with a variety of big ones like cod, haddock, plaice, pollack, redfish, ling, tusk, halibut, mackerel and saithe.

You can enjoy sea fishing in the Bergen region all year round. The summer months are the prime season, when both locals and visitors make the most of warmer temperatures and evening light that seem to last for ever. On the other hand, fishing in winter, spring, and autumn means fewer crowds and cheaper accommodation and services.
The winter months offer fishing opportunities of a different kind. The cold, dark climate is compensated by outstanding opportunities for cod fishing. Between January and March, vast amounts of skrei (migrating cod) appear along the coast to spawn. This may be your best chance to catch a record-breaking cod.
In this article you can find the facts you need about Norwegian sea fishing rules and regulations.
