The first of Havila Voyag's hybrid vessels are finally ready to start operating on the Norwegian Coastal Route (formerly known as Hurtigruten) from Bergen to Kirkenes.
Travelling from Bergen to Kirkenes on the Coastal Route is a spectacular trip, with 34 ports along the way, sailing past more than 100 fjords and 1,000 mountains
The new service is part of the Norwegian government’s efforts to encourage competition on the route which had been maintained for over 125 years by Hurtigruten. Havila Capella is one of four Havila ships that will operate on this route, the next ship is scheduled to be delivered in April.
The world’s largest battery pack
Havila Capella is a front runner within eco-friendly transportation on the sea. The ship’s primary power comes from liquified natural gas, but is also has the world's largest battery pack on board a passenger ship, with a full 6.1 megawatts (equates to 610 Tesla’s). Havila Capella will be able to sail for four hours only on battery, which means that it can sail into the Norwegian World Heritage Fjords with zero emissions from day 1.
New ships create a better experience
One of the benefits of the new ships from Havila is that the noise level will be reduced. The cabins are also more spacious. The interior on the ships is inspired by the sea, sky, mountains and glaciers, and you will be served local specialties from towns and villages that the ship passes. A special feature is the lounge chairs under the glass roof where you will have a view of the northern lights and the midnight sun.
