A new milestone in sustainable transport was reached today when Norway’s first electric tour bus is ready to transport tourists and other travelers.
Just over a year after the bus company Tide was awarded Enova support for an ambitious development project of a total of 16 electric tour buses with associated charging infrastructure, the first bus is rolling on Norwegian roads.
- Finally, the country's first electric tour bus of this bus class has arrived in Norway, and it marks the start of a zero-emission journey within tour buses we have been looking forward to for a long time, says Tide's CEO Roger Harkestad.
The bus has been developed and manufactured in China by the Chinese bus manufacturer, Golden Dragon, and although the pandemic has caused some delays in the project, there will be another 15 electric coaches on Norwegian roads over the next year and a half.
- This is a special day for environmentally friendly tour buses and an important step on the road to more sustainable transport. We estimate that the 16 electric tour buses will provide an estimated annual saving of CO2 of a total of about 720,000 kg, says Harkestad.

A class 3 tour bus has a higher degree of comfort than other buses. These buses are often used on longer transport assignments, with both high comfort and luggage capacity.
The first electric tour bus will be stationed in Bergen, and will be available to rent for both companies and private individuals. The bus can take 49 passengers and has a range of up to 300 kilometers before the bus has to charge.
