Find out where to park your motorhome
You are here: Home Accommodation Camping Motorhome parking in Bergen
A motorhome is your best friend when you want a holiday with a lot of freedom, and it is important to know where you can park your motorhome. Which rules apply, and where are the best places to park? Here's what you need to know about parking your motorhome, campervan, caravan or RV in Bergen.
Every year, tourists flock to Bergen in their motorhomes, and we of course welcome you with open arms. After all, your choice of destination is excellent. If you are one of them, we would like to give you some parking tips in advance. We have had a chat with Arvid Heggestad, head of the parking department in Bergen municipality. And here is his advice on how and where to park your motorhome, campervan, caravan or RV.
The first thing you need to be aware of is that the parking rules are the same for motorhomes as for cars. If you are allowed to park there, it doesn’t matter whether you own a Hymer or a Tesla.
- If there are marked spaces, there must be enough space for you. And motorhomes are usually a little bigger than a normal car. But if there is enough room, you are allowed to park there. But beware that parking only is allowed for a limited time period in most parking places in Bergen city centre. Generally the time period will be no more than 1-2 hours.
In the summer, parts of the city centre can be closed for traffic. Based on this Heggestad recommends you not to bring your motorhome into the city center. If you want to enjoy your holiday in Bergen, it is best to park somewhere outside the city, and use public transport into the city centre.
This summer you can park by Fjordline ferry terminal during the day between the hours of 14:00 and 22:00. This is only a car park and no facilities are offered here. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to the city centre. Read more about the motorhome parking at Fjordline.
Seasonal self-service motorhome parking located 10 mintues drive from the city center by Bergenshallen. Read more about caravan parking location, season and payment here.
Fortunately, there are a few campsites just outside Bergen. And if you have children, camping is a great alternative. About 20 minutes outside Bergen you will find Bratland Camping. Here you can both fish and rent a boat.

Only 5 minutes further away is Bergen's largest campsite, Lone Camping, with space for both tents, caravans and cars. Lone Camping also offers excellent opportunities for canoeing and swimming.
Another option is Bergen Camping Park located at Breistein. From Breistein it takes 20 minutes to drive to the city center - or 10 minutes to Åsane, which has both shopping malls and restaurants. The bus connections from Åsane are good, if you want to park your motorhome and hop on a bus into town.

A bit further out - just over half an hour from the center - you will find the quiet and idyllic Bruvoll Camping & Cabins. At this camping site you get far more than just a motorhome parking: Great nature, family-friendly hiking trails and the Children's Farm with, among other things, goats, pigs and horses.
The trampoline park Flipzone is located just north of Bergen city center and offers mobile home parking during the summer months from April to September. Call and book a place in advance. Toilet and shower facilities available. Bus number 4 goes from the "Industrihuset" stop to the center of Bergen and takes about 20 minutes. Read more about parking at Flipzone. You can book in advance at Campio.no
Even if you are driving a motorhome, it may be a good idea to use public transport to get in and out of the city center. If you want to have a closer look at the city, but hey- we take that for granted. This means that you should consider purchasing a Bergen Card. With the Bergen Card, you can take the bus and the city light rail for free - and you also get free admission or a discount on museums and attractions. That's a good deal.

But you don’t have to go to the city centre to find something fun to do. If you have parked at Bergenshallen, for example, you should visit Mount Ulriken. You can hop on the number 3 bus to Ulriksdal. Ulriksbanen is closed for rebuilding in 2020, so right now you have to walk the 643 meters up to the top of Bergen's highest mountain!
The Edvard Grieg Museum at Troldhaugen is another popular option - you can easily get there with the Bergen Light Rail (Bybanen). Or perhaps you really love museums AND old textiles? The Textile Industry Museum is only a 15 minutes drive from Bergen Camping Park. If you have parked your motorhome at Lone or Bratland Camping, you can stop by Oleana Économusée where you can watch the whole process from wool yarn to finished product.
If you’re staying at Bruvoll, we can highly recommend the beautiful Lyngheisenteret. Today it is the only place in Europe where you can experience authentic heather moors - run by local farmers, adapted for the public.
