Every year Bergen is the home arena for a number of different events. There are plenty of opportunities to join in as a participant or just enjoy soaking in the special atmosphere as a spectator at one of the many events in Bergen.
Sports events:
Bergen City Marathon is held every year in April. A wonderful track route in the charming street of Bergen is appreciated by both locals and visitors.
There is also several sports events in Bergen leading up to the Marathon. Every year in September you can run Knarvikmila – The Great Fjord Run. A week packed with culture and sports events just outside Bergen.
Bergen is beautifully situated, surrounded by seven mountains that lie like a paradise for hiking and outdoor activities. Every year in May you can climb all seven mountains on the same day during the 7-mountain race. If seven sounds a lot, you can start with the 4-mountain race. On either one there is no shortage of stunning views of the city along the 35 kilometer long course.
Of the 7 mountains surrounding Bergen Mount Ulriken is the highest and has a separate mountain race called Ulriken Opp every year in May.
The race which will give you the most lactic acid is Stoltzekleiven Opp. With 801 steps from Fjellveien to Sandvikspilen and a rise of 315 meters, this is perhaps the year's toughest event in Bergen.
In June every year you can cycle from Bergen – Voss in the race that over the years has become a tradition for recreational cyclists as well as competitive cyclists from all over the West Coast.
For most cyclists, the goal is to spend some enjoyable hours on the bike, while you cycle through the breathtaking scenery of western Norway.
For several years the bike race Tour des Fjords has had its first stage starting in Bergen. The start of the race is on Bryggen and continues south along the fjords to Stavanger.
Every year about 5,000 different small and large events in Bergen of all catergories.
