You are here: Home Region Explore the region Austrheim - The jewel of the west coast
In Austrheim it's all about water sports, whether it is deep sea diving, boating, or fishing.
The archipelago Austrheim is located Northwest of Bergen, facing the North Sea. Austrheim municipality is an hour and 15 minutes' drive from the center of Bergen, and is easily accessible by car, bus or boat.
Kilstraumen Brygge is the natural starting point for experiences in Austrheim. At Kilstraumen there has been an inn for over 400 years! Today, Kilstraumen Brygge offers a wide range of experiences.

Enjoy the long summer nights, the archipelago, boating and the smell of the sea. At Kilstraumen you can rent your own fisherman's cabin (called rorbu), or an apartment. You can also spend the night in the historic inn from 1610. In addition, Kilstraumen has its own camping site for caravans and motorhomes, and a modern harbour with all facilities should you arrive by private boat.
Kilstraumen Brygge has two restaurants and the chefs take great pride in using local ingredients from right outside their doorstep. Austrheim has good quality produce like fish, shellfish, eggs, meat from local farmers as well as local pastries. Enjoy a meal and an ice cream at the outdoor seating in the summer.

The sea eagle is Northern Europe's largest bird of prey, and if you're lucky you can catch a glimpse of it in Austrheim. A great way to go on an eagle safari is by kayak or canoe. Kilstraumen Brygge has both kayaks, canoes and boats for hire.

Austrheim consists of 489 islands, islets and reefs, and is a jewel for those who enjoy water sports. The nature in Austrheim is exciting, varied and accessible to everyone. But remember – nature and weather are unpredictable. Make sure you are well prepared and be careful.
Austrheim is a popular area for recreational divers. The sea is teeming with life below the surface, and there are several tidal currents and wrecks in the area that are popular diving spots. If you are more comfortable above water, there are several options for you as well. The hosts at Kilstraumen Brygge can help you organize your archipelago experience, whether you want to go fishing, kayaking or experience the archipelago on an exciting RIB tour. You can also visit a fish farm to get a closer look at modern aquaculture. Back on shore there are great hiking opportunities. Austrheim is also a nice place to get around by bike. Rent your bike at Kilstraumen Brygge.
Both the North Cape and Lindesnes (southernmost point in Norway) are well-known places in Norway. In Austrheim you will find an interesting, but lesser-known geographical point of interest: Vardetangen, Norway's westernmost mainland point.
