People from Bergen grasp any excuse for a festival. Nothing is too trivial!
Every year there are around 50 different festivals and major concerts in Bergen.
Bergen International Festival is Northern Europe’s largest music and theater festival and is held every year in late May / early June and presents around 200 events in the fields of music, ballet, opera, theatre, dance and performing arts.
For many locals and visitors the highlight of the year is Bergenfest!
Bergenfest is Western Norway's largest music festival that takes place in beautiful surroundings at Bergenhus Fortress in the city center. During a 4-5 day period in mid-June each year Bergenfest offers the very best of international and Norwegian artists in a delightful mixture of genres.
In the end of May / beginning of June northern Europe's longest jazz festival is held in Bergen. Nattjazz (Night jazz) presents music for those who want to enjoy themselves with familiar material as well as those who want to expand their musical horizon.
In Bergen you will find festivals of all music genres starting with the metal festival Blastfest each year in February. In March you can enjoy the contemporary music festival Borealis.
Bergen International Festival is held in May/June followed by Nattjazz and Bergenfest. During the summer you can also enjoy Grieg in Bergen – a series of concerts over 10 weeks. Eggstockfestivalen for new bands are held every year in June and the festival Ekko for Contemporary Art & Music in October. And last but not least the Baroque music festival in November / December.
In addition to music festivals Bergen offers a range of other festivals like Bergen Matfest – a festival with local food and Bergen Beer Festival, both held every year in September or Bergen International Whisky and Beer Festival in February.
