Charming otters and penguins at Bergen Aquarium, experimentations at VilVite Bergen Science Centre, fun slides at Vannkanten aquapark and the city's largest playground at Mount Fløyen! These are just some of the activities a weekend with kids in Bergen can contain!
To help you along the way with your planning, we have made a weekend itinerary containing some of the hightlights in Bergen on a weekend. If you want the full list of options to choose from, check out all things to do in Bergen and the region here.
First stop on the weekend trip to Bergen is the Bergen Aquarium at the tip of Nordnes. The Aquarium offers a lot to discover, including the exciting Philippine crocodiles and sharks close up. Some years ago six large penguins moved in, directly from Legoland Zoo in Denmark. The danish penguins are a lot bigger than Pingrid Alexandra, Pondus, Herman Piele, and the rest of the gang who already lived in the pingvin pond. For the first time since the mid 1980s, the aquarium also has otters. Two small, funny critters have moved into the outdoor pond and will be trained over time.

Head over to VilVite at Florida, where the whole family can explore and experiment! Test water power with water wheels and water jets, try the 360° bike loop and see how large soap bubbles you can make with the soap coat! VilVite has a lot of exciting activities to offer, so make sure you have enough time to play and learn while you make your way through the big exhibition.Photo: VilVite
You can walk to VilVite from the city centre, and for those who want to take the city rail, you can get off at the Florida stop. The light rail is also free if you buy the Bergen Card, which also offers advantages like discounted entry to most museums and attractions in the city. A great investment for a weekend with kids in Bergen!
At Vannkanten aquapark the whole family can enjoy the heated pools both inside and outside, being challenged at the climbing wall, and those who are toughest can take the Superbowl slope into the centrifuge. The aquapark also has Norway's longest water slide at 120 meters, and its own mascot – the dolphin Duffe!

Take the Sunday trip to Fløyen! Take the Fløibanen funicular, one of the biggest attractions in Bergen, to the top and explore the wonders of the Troll Woods with its wooden trolls. End the weekend with kids in Bergen with exploring the city's largest playground with swings, slides and jungle gyms.

After Fløyen, the Fish Market is a natural stop on a weekend trip to Bergen. Here the kids can see what's the seafood in the saltwater tanks, and the parents can lower their shoulders in the car-free area. The fish market is open all year, and in the summer months there is a large outdoor market, selling seafood, fruit and vegetables.
Good tip:
If you use the Bergen Card, you will receive free or discounted entrance to most museums and attractions in Bergen. Bus and city rail are also free! You can buy the Bergen Card online, at the Tourist Information Center in Bergen, at most campsites and at Montana Hostel.
