Excited (or curious) about going on a fjord cruise? Who wouldn’t be! Perhaps you’ve even decided on a destination. So you’ve got the how and the what, but what about the when? Is there a best time to go on a fjord cruise?
We can start off by saying this: There’s never a bad time to go on a fjord cruise. But naturally, you want to make sure you get the best fjord cruise experience possible. Here are some pointers about what to expect.
Comfortable temperatures. Flora at its lushest. A symphony of birdsong. There are plenty of reasons why the demand for fjord cruises peaks during summer. We totally get it. Between mid-April and September, magic happens in Norway. If you’re a summer person, and prefer shorts or skirts to jeans, this is when you want to go. If you’re in northern Norway, Tromsø for example, there are several arctic fjord cruises that let you experience both the fauna and the beautiful snowy landscapes.
And what about the aurora borealis? If you really want to see the northern lights in all its glory, a fjord cruise during winter time offers unique vantage points – and a once in a lifetime experience.
Spring is when landscapes come alive. Autumn is the most colorful of all. There are distinct qualities to every season, and these two are no different. Seeing the Norwegian fjords painted red, bronze and yellow by the autumn foliage, with the sun resting low on the sky, is truly a sight to behold. Besides, if you just want to see the fjords, going when there are fewer tourists might save you both money and stress.
