Either you are traveling by plane, boat, bus or train, it is easy to travel to and from Bergen with public transport.
And when you finally get to Bergen, public transportation makes it easy to get around in the Bergen region. To and from the airport:
When you land at Bergen airport Flesland, there is always a bus waiting for you outside the terminal building. Flybussen (the airport bus) is the quickest public transport to and from the airport and downtown Bergen, and it frequent departures. Bybanen (Bergen Light Rail):
Bybanen line number 1 is a light rail that goes from Byparken in the city centre to Bergen Airport Flesland. Since Bybanen mostly is separated from the ordinary traffic, it is a more effective way of travel than regular city trams. With stops within short distances from the big tourist attractions like Troldhaugen (Edvard Grieg Museum), Bybanen is frequently used by locals, tourists and travelers. Many of the stops have good connection to the city buses, like the terminal stations at Lagunen and Byparken, making it easy for travelers to get to their final destinations.
Local buses in Bergen:
The local busses is probably the most flexible public transport in Bergen. Due to a well-developed route network in the region, it is easy to get from A to B without too many change of buses. Skyss is running the routes in the downtown area, Osterøy, Bergen North, Bergen South, Os, Hardanger, Voss and Austevoll. The city routes and the stem routes is covering a large part of the Bergen region, and the express busses takes you quickly to the terminals in the different areas. The tickets can be bought at the kiosks before departure or at the Tourist Information next to Fisketorget in Bergen.
Getting to Bergen by boat/ferry:
Many people chose to travel to Bergen by Fjord Lines comfortable ferries from Hirtshals (Denmark). You can also travel with Fjord Line between Bergen and Stavanger.
The sea ways are also often the most effective way of getting around in the Bergen region, especially if you are traveling across fjords and mountains. Take the world’s most beautiful train ride!
The Bergensbanen has several times been named the World’s most beautiful train ride, and is one of Europe’s highest and most spectacular train rides (reaching 1222 metres above sea level). Chosing the railway to Bergen, takes you between Norways two biggest cities in seven hours, and you will see some of Norways most beautiful sceneries.
And when you arrive in Bergen train station, you step out of the coupé right into the heart of Bergen. Many tourists take the Bergen railway to Myrdal station, and hops onto the Flåmsbana to the picturesque village Flåm. The Lonely Planet Traveler has named Flåmsbanen "The World’s most incredible train journey" in 2014, and the Flåmsbana train ride is one of Norways most popular tourist attractions.
