There are several different options you can choose from when travelling from Sogndal to Bergen. The most eco-friendly alternative is to go by bus.
The Sognefjord Express Bus takes around 5 hours from Sogndal to Bergen city centre. If you prefer to go by plane the flight takes only 35 minutes. If you go by car, there are several routes to choose from. The fastest of these takes about 4 hours.
The Sognefjord Express has two daily departure from Sogndal to Bergen and takes around 5 hours from Sogndal to Bergen city centre. You can also take Vy Express Bus. This bus takes a bit longer due to more stops along the way and more than an hour wait at Førde bus station for a change of bus.

There are 3 main routes from Sogndal to Bergen. The fastest route is the E16. From Sogndal you drive to Lærdalsøyri and then continue on riksvei (Norwegian National Road) number 5 until it meets the E16. Along the way you have to cross the Sognefjord on the ferry between Mannheller and Fodnes. The ferry uses about 15 minutes on the crossing. Follow the E16 west through Gudvangen, onwards to Voss and from there to Bergen. This route will normally take you a bit more than 4 hours.

The second option is to drive across Vikafjellet (Vika mountain) to Voss. From Sogndal you drive to Balestrand, where you cross the Sognefjord on the ferry between Hella and Vangsnes. The ferry takes about 15 minutes to cross the fjord.
In Balestrand you can stop at The Norwegian Museum of Travel and Tourism in Balestrand. The mountain walls inside the main building form a unique space for exhibiting the interesting history of travel in Norway.

After the ferry, you follow riksvei number 13 across Vikafjellet until it meets E16 outside of Voss. Then follow the E16 to Bergen. This route is around 20 kilometers shorter than the alternative via Gudvangen, but due to the condition of the roads on Vikafjellet, you should expect to use about 4 hours and 20 minutes from Sogndal to Bergen.
If you are not in a hurry, the route on E39 is also an option. From Sogndal you take riksvei number 5 west to Skei, where it meets E39. Then follow the E39 via Førde all the way to Bergen. Along the way, you cross the Sognefjord on the ferry between Lavik and Oppedal. The ferry uses about 20 minutes on the crossing. This route is significantly longer than the other two options, and will normally take you just under 5 hours.

The flight between Sogndal and Bergen is short and takes only 35 minutes. Widerøe has 2 daily departures on this route. Getting from the airport to Bergen city centre is quick and easy with the Bergen Light Rail or the Airport Bus.
In Bergen there is a large selection of activities and attractions. We recommend that you plan and book in advance to get the most of your stay.
