There are several options you can choose from when travelling from Tromsø, the Arctic capital, to Bergen.
If you choose to fly, the flight takes 2 hours. If you travel on Hurtigruten, the ship takes 5 days from Tromsø to Bergen. But the coastal voyage is well worth the travel time. It is also possible to drive from Tromsø to Bergen. The drive is about 1750 kilometers, depending on which route you choose. We recommend you spend 3 days on the journey.
The flight between Tromsø and Bergen takes about 2 hours when it is a direct flight between the two cities. The route is operated by Widerøe, and there are normally 2-3 daily departures. Of course, you can fly via Trondheim or Oslo if the daily departures do not fit your schedule.

Sit back and relax, and enjoy the view of the beautiful landscape while you look forward to your stay in Bergen. Getting from the airport to Bergen city center is quick and easy with the Bergen Light Rail or the Airport Bus.
If you travel by car between Tromsø and Bergen, it takes much, much longer than by plane, but you drive through some fantastic scenery and there is no shortage of interesting places to stop en route.
The drive between Tromsø and Bergen is about 1750 kilometers long, so you should divide it into 3 days.. On Day 1 we suggest you drive the 532 kilometers from Tromsø to Bodø. The trip follows the E6, which is the main road from north to south in Norway, and there are several places where you can take a detour along the way, if you’re not in a hurry. Lofoten is one of these places. The Lofoten archipelago is known for its remote, rugged beauty. When you reach Narvik municipality you should experience Stetind, Norway's national mountain. The legendary "anvil" in the innermost part of Stefjorden rises 1392 meters above sea level and can be seen from at least seven parishes.

Day 2 is perfect for driving from Bodø to Trondheim. The distance between these two cities is 700 kilometers so you will spend a lot of hours in the car on day 2. All the more reason to take a break or three. The famous Saltstraumen is only a 30-minute drive from Bodø, but is well worth a visit. Saltstraumen is the world's strongest maelstrom, which is created when the tide turns and flows in and out of the strait between The Saltenfjord and The Skjerstadfjord.

While driving across Saltfjellet (Salt mountain) you pass the Arctic Circle, one of the polar circles on the globe, located at 66°33' North. The Arctic Circle refers to where the sun doesn't set mid summer and doesn't rise mid winter. An excellent opportunity to stop and fill your daily Instagram quota from Norway.
The last stage, from Trondheim to Bergen, is just over 600 kilometers and passes through the beautiful fjord landscape. There are several different routes you can choose from, the fastest of these is via Stryn and over Sognefjellet. If you travel on Hurtigruten Coastal Voyager from Tromsø to Bergen, you follow Norway's beautiful coastal landscape. The boat trip takes 5 days, but is packed with experiences along the way. Hurtigruten is also the most eco-friendly way to travel between Tromsø and Bergen.
Check out the spectacular nature along the Helgeland coast, Lofoten and Vesterålen, and in the summer the ship sails into the Geirangerfjord, which is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Relax, enjoy delicious food, read a book and just enjoy the trip while Hurtigruten brings you to Bergen.
