In Bergen, you can participate in a variety of large-scale sporting events every year.
You can choose to go for long hikes in the beautiful mountains surrounding the city, test yourself on some of the toughest uphill climbs we have to offer, or explore significant parts of Bergen while wearing your running shoes in Bergen City Marathon.
Bergen City Marathon takes place every year in April. The course runs through the charming streets of Bergen and attracts both locals and visitors from all over the world. In September each year you can attend, Knarvikmila, a week filled with both cultural and sporting events outside Bergen city center.
Bergen is beautifully situated, surrounded by seven mountains that is the perfect arena for hiking and outdoor activities. Every year in May, you can conquer all seven mountains on the same day during the 7-fjellsturen (Seven Mountains Hike). If that seems a bit too much, you can opt for the 4-fjellsturen (Four Mountains Hike). Magnificent views of the city accompany you along the 35-kilometer-long route.
Among the seven mountains, Ulriken is the highest, and in May, the Ulriken Opp uphill race is held, featuring both competitive and recreational categories. If you are looking for the race with the most lactic acid, then opt for the race Stoltzekleiven Opp. With 801 steps from Fjellveien to Sandvikspilen and an elevation gain of 315 meters, this might be the ultimate test of strength for the year!
In June each year, the cycling race Bergen-Voss takes place, which has become a tradition for fitness enthusiasts, recreational cyclists, and competitive cyclists from all over Western Norway. For most participants, the goal is to spend a few wonderful hours on the bike while enjoying the magnificent landscape along the way.
When visiting Bergen to attend a sporting event, make sure you allocate enough time before or after the event to explore Bergen with its large number of attractions and activities on offer.
