An overnight stay here offers something truly special. To reach Skavlabu Tourist Cabin, you must hike on foot. The shortest route is 3 km on a well-marked trail from Svartavatnet. Other options are longer and require a full day’s hike to reach the cabin. Skavlabu offers views, lakes for swimming and nature on all sides. Here you can relax and just be - watch the sun rise and set, feel the weather, wind and silence. Here you will find peace.
Skavlabu Tourist Cabin belongs to Bergen and Hordaland Turlag and is accessible all year round, but in winter it is challenging to reach. Snow can linger in this rugged landscape, so if you plan a trip – choose summer or autumn!
A stay at Skavlabu Tourist Cabin offers a simple outdoor life. The cabin is well-equipped and comfortable, but without running water and electricity. The outhouse and dog room are in the emergency cabin, 70 meters from the main cabin. There is plenty of firewood, gas, and candles – and you’ll find food in the pantry if you don’t want to carry your own. You must pay for the food you use. It is important to familiarize yourself with practical information about Skavlabu Tourist Cabin before your stay. Then you can fully enjoy the cabin, the mountains and the fresh air!
How to Book at Skavlabu Turisthytte
To stay at the DNT cabin Skavlabu, it is recommended to book in advance. Membership is not required, but members of the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) receive a discount on the stay.

You book a bed. This means that other guests may also come to the cabin and even share the same room with you - unless you have booked all the beds.

What to Bring to Skavlabu Turisthytte
The cabin is a self-service DNT cabin. This means it has what you need for self-catering: firewood, gas, bedding, and a food supply. You must bring your own bed linen/sleeping bag. It is not allowed to sleep directly in the bedding on the beds.
The cabin consists of a main cabin and an emergency cabin. Outhouse and dog room are in the emergency cabin. There is no running water or electricity, but gas, firewood, and candles are available. Water can be found in the lake right outside the cabin. The cabin is simple and cozy with outstanding views over Stølsheimen.
Skavlabu Turisthytte is located 900 meters above sea level and weather conditions can be challenging. Hiking boots, wool clothing, wind/waterproof outerwear, and safety equipment such as a map, compass, first aid kit, bivy bag/sleeping bag should always be in your backpack.

There are several possible starting points to reach Skavlabu Turisthytte. Public transport is available to Mo center and Dyrkolbotn.
Masfjorden: Summer road for cars – turn off at Masfjord Tunnel E39 in Romarheimsdalen. Drive Svartavassvegen to the end at Svartavatnet. Winter Season if there is Snow:
Skavlabu Turisthytte is located high in the mountains. Overnight stays are mainly recommended during summer between June and October. Winter trips are not recommended without contacting Bergen and Hordaland Turlag in advance.
Accessibility:
Unfortunately, Skavlabu Turisthytte is not adapted for wheelchair users. The hike from Svartavatnet may be suitable for mountain-savvy children aged 5–6 years.
