Enjoy delicious local seafood in beautiful surroundings on board the M/S Bruvik. Experience the city of Bergen and its stunning fjord from the sea.
Now you can experience the city of Bergen from the sea on board the venerable M/S Bruvik. Climb on board at the quay beside Fish Me and Mathallen, at the Bergen Fish Market. The tour takes us through Vågen bay and out into the Byfjorden (city fjord), into the bay of Eidsvågen with its beautiful fjord and mountain views, before turning round to cruise alongside Askøy island, and then heading back to the Fish Market. When we tie up at the Mathallen quay at the Fish Market again, our guests have had the opportunity to enjoy beautiful views of the city of Bergen and all seven of its stunning mountains, while breathing in the fresh sea air in the beloved archipelago of which the city is rightfully proud. You can experience all this as one of our guests on the hour and a half cruise.
M/S Bruvik is a venerable boat that was built in 1949 to carry goods, post and passengers. For all the years since then, the boat has been sailing the waters around Bergen, with only a few short breaks. Converted into a restaurant boat some time ago, M/S Bruvik has two lounges with bars, and a splendid aft deck which we use for dining on fine days; a perfect place for you to enjoy the superb landscape in and around the city of Bergen. The boat has been refurbished and completely renovated in recent years, but has not lost its character as a charming and welcoming vintage boat. The boat is also suitable for small or large corporate events, and can provide separate rooms for different departments.
During the trip, we serve a magnificent and varied seafood buffet, including sushi, sashimi, fish soup, lobster soup, caviar, an assortment of herring dishes, and much more. Naturally, there is plenty of shellfish too, with snow crab, king crab, prawns, crab claws, crab meat and langoustine being only some of what we have to offer. We also provide a splendid selection of smoked fish, all from our own smokehouse, where we use the traditional method of smoking in open brick ovens; you can choose from hot smoked salmon, herring, mackerel, etc., as well as smoked salmon and scrambled egg, gravlax, beetroot, salmon marinated in aquavit – the list goes on. There is also hot food such as baked cod and salmon, mussels steamed in white wine, etc. Just like the Fish Me shop and restaurant, our focus is on local, natural and fresh seafood. We also have plenty of side dishes such as home-made aioli, bread, salad, potatoes, boiled rice, etc. You can eat as much as you like of all this and more on the trip.
If you are not a great seafood lover, or prefer alternatives such as vegetarian food, or have allergies, but would still like to join us on a lovely fjord cruise with your family and friends, we will be happy to prepare alternatives for you. Just write a short request in the comments section telling us what you would like; we can manage almost everything.
We are also proud to provide local beverages in our onboard drinks selection. We recommend trying our many local varieties of beer and cider. However, of course we also have a wide selection of excellent wines from all over the world. These include sparkling wines and champagne. We also have Norwegian aquavit, or other varieties of strong traditional Norwegian spirits. And of course we also have coffee, tea, mineral water, soft drinks, local and natural juices, etc. (Drinks are not included in the price).
The owner, Arnfinn Djukastein, has been selling fish at Bergen Fish Market since 1990, and has extensive experience with seafood in all its variations. The Fish Me Seafood Buffet & Fjord Cruise is part of Fish Me, which has a fish shop and restaurant inside the new Mathallen at the Fish Market. Because we have become so popular, and it is difficult to accommodate all our guests in Fish Me in the busy summer season, we have decided to offer the extra option of the Fish Me Seafood Buffet & Fjord Cruise, which also gives you the chance to enjoy a lovely trip around the fjord.
Wheelchair users are welcome. We lift them on board manually, where they will only have access to the upper deck, and we ask every wheelchair customer to bring an assistant.
