Duration and Distance:
• Approximately 8-12 hrs
• 20-28 km return
• 800-1200 m ascent
Level of difficulty: Expert
The weather conditions greatly determine the level of difficulty. Please inform your guide of any medical conditions that might impact you during your hike or in an emergency.
Requirements:
• Good physical condition
• Not suitable for people with troublesome knees
• Minimum age: 15 years
Meetup 7:30 am at the Trolltunga Active Base in Skjeggedal 20, 5770 Tyssedal. Beware the road to Skjeggedal is your first adventure for today, depending on the weather conditions good winter tires, spikes or snow chains are crucial.
We recommend joining the information meeting at Trolltunga Hotel at 21:00 the night before your hike.
What to bring:
- A lot of food: at least double of what you would eat on a normal day (sandwiches, nuts, chocolate, banana)
- 2 litres of water (nice to have: thermos with hot water) – you cannot fill up water in the winter mountain
- Sturdy, waterproof and warm hiking boots
- Warm woolen socks and spare socks
- Woolen base layer (do not use cotton: it is freezing cold when it is wet)
- Warm mid layer
- Wind- and waterproof shell jacket and pants
- Beanie or warm headband
- Gloves/mittens and a spare pair
- Sunglasses and/or goggles (helpful in snow and wind)
- Sunscreen
- Head lamp
- Backpack with approximately 40 litres capacity
For the winter tour, make sure to leave a bit of space in your backpack for the micro spikes and be aware that you should be able to strap snowshoes onto the backpack you are bringing.
You can rent certain pieces of equipment on site: rain pants and jackets, hiking boots, backpacks
How to get here?
Trolltunga Active Base is located at parking P2 in Skjeggedal (location in Google maps).
Most visitors have their base in Odda or nearby villages. Easiest arrival is from Bergen to Odda is with rental car. Here you find you find schedule for public busses www.skyss.no
The distance from Odda to the P2 parking is approximately 20 minutes by car.

Between 15 October and 1 June, Trolltunga Hotel , located in Odda, offers free transportation to the meeting point for Trolltunga hikes as part of the accommodation package.
Guide:
The guides talk English. On request we might manage to arrange guides talking other languages.
To book a private guide, choose the option ‘Private guide’. A group with a private guide, can include up to 8 participants/the price is equal to the price of 8 persons booked. For the private guide, make a booking for 8 persons, when placing your booking info, write ‘Private guide xx persons’ in the cell for your first name. And your full name in the cell for the last name.
Student discount:
If you are younger than 25 years of age or a student, you can choose the price option of 'Young Travellers & Students'. At the meetup you must show documentation on your age or a student ID.
