Fedje – the village in the ocean is a small island municipality on the outermost coast of Western Hordaland. People live side by side around the harbour in the north of the island, and its total population is around 500. Fedje is 7.4 square kilometres, and there are also hundreds of small islets and skerries.

The viewpoint at Vidnappen, by Fedje traffic control centre, is just 40 metres above sea level, but you still get great views in all directions. See the fjords and mountains of Western Norway and the waves and expanse of the Atlantic Ocean.
This picturesque island has served as a centre for whaling, and you can still buy local whale meat during the hunting season. Although Fedje is a small island, it offers a range of accommodation and dining options.
There is an all-year ferry service from Sævrøy in Austrheim to Fedje, which takes around 30 minutes (see the timetable). From Bergen, you drive to Knarvik and turn left at the roundabout, and follow the Fv 565 road across Radøy to Austrheim and Sævrøy ferry quay.

There is a grocery shop on Fedje and a charming little village shop. We also recommend a North Sea Trail walk in the beautiful heathlands on Fedje, where you can enjoy fantastic views of the sea and the beautiful coastal flora and abundant fauna. See a description of the walk and a map here. After the walk you may buy a diploma at the Fedje Landhandel. Restaurants and accommodation options are found in the centre of the village near the quay. You'll find Landsbykafeen, Fab. nr. 8, Matkroken and Fedje Landhandel at the harbour.
Hellisøy Lighthouse, one of two lighthouses on Fedje, is a cast iron lighthouse built in 1855. It is 33 metres tall with a light height of 46 metres. The iron plates cover 35,000 bricks that make up the actual tower. It is possible to stay in the lighthouse keepers’ house at Hellisøy Lighthouse. Watch the sun set on the sea and enjoy a unique 360-degree view! You can also hire kayaks, SUP boards and go ocean rafting. Read more at www.hellisoyfyr.no.
