Folgefonni Brefoerarlag offers a unique kayak trip where you'll experience the Folgefonna glacier up close. With guides ensuring the necessary kayak equipment, dry suit, and safety, get ready for a breathtaking experience.
The three km paddle trip across Møvatnet to the 5000-year-old glacier is suitable for beginners and advanced over the age of 15, with a lunch break included midway. The guides will vary the pace according to your skill level.
Meeting point and duration:
The trip is available all summer from 1 July to mid-September and lasts around 6-7 hours.
It starts and ends outside the tourist office in Rosendal, with the guided following you the entire way.
Bring:
We recommend bringing wool underwear, sunglasses and sun lotion. All your clothing can be wet if you are unlucky and turn over; please bring extra set of clothing so you can change after the trip if needed. You should also bring a towel. No warm shower is available. All necessary kayaking equipment including dry suits and water proof paddle shoes are provided.
This can also be combined with the Blue Ice Hike on the Juklavassbreen glacier if you plan more activities or a longer stay.

How to get to Rosendal from Bergen:
By car:
The drive from Bergen to Rosendal takes about 2.5 hours. Drive north towards Voss on the E16, then take the exit for Fv7 at Trengereid. After about 15 kilometers, turn onto Fv48 towards Tysse and follow Fv48 to the ferry terminal at Gjermundshamn. Take the ferry from Gjermundshamn to Årsnes and continue from Årsnes to Rosendal on Fv500.
By boat:
A popular and convenient way to travel is by taking the boat from Bergen to Rosendal. The Hardangerfjord Express departs from the Strandkaiterminal, near the Tourist Information in Bergen, and takes about 2 hours to reach Rosendal. On the boat, you can enjoy the beautiful trip and the stunning approach to Rosendal. The boat docks in the center of the town. Please inform the organizer if you arrive by boat, and the group will wait for you. (The boat arrives at 10:45, and the tour starts at 10:30). Be aware that you will not be able to take the boat back to Bergen the same day.
By bus:
There are also buses from Bergen to Rosendal, and the trip includes two ferry crossings. The journey takes about 3-4 hours, depending on schedules and connections. You can find the timetables on Skyss.no.
Safety:
Glaciers are beautiful, but they can also be dangerous. Without a guide or professional experience, getting too close to or venturing onto the glacier can lead to serious injury or fatal consequences. If you want to experience the glacier up close, you should always use a certified guide, such as on this tour.

Cancellations:
The tour can be canceled with a full refund up to 5 days before the tour date unless otherwise agreed. If you cancel later than this but more than 24 hours before the tour, you will receive a 50% refund. If you cancel less than 24 hours before the tour, there is no refund. If Folgefonni Breførarlag has to cancel the tour due to weather/conditions, you will receive a 100% refund.
